Phil Akashi has been selected to represent Belgium at the Fashion Art EU Exhibition. This ambitious project is a collaboration between the Fashion Art Institute and the European Institutions. It aims to gather “ARTE y MODA” to promote creativity in Europe. The first exhibition has been held during 6 months between November 2014 and May 2015 in the Parlamentarium, the visitors' centre of the European Parliament in Brussels. The second exhibition will be held during 2 months from the 28th of June till the 26th of July 2016 in the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona.
28 artists from the European Union are to be the protagonists of this unique exhibition - each of the artists using their personal technique to communicate European values in their particular manner. The result is a new pictorial language uniting very diverse artistic movements that coexist in harmony - reminiscent of the harmony of coexistence among the countries of the European Union.
Spanish designer Manuel Fernandez, with great international vision, had the initiative of merging art and fashion in 1998 as he presented in one piece the work of renowned artists and their designs. Since then, Fashion Art has emerged as a pluralistic movement and has exhibited in more than twenty prestigious museums around the world. More than three million people have visited these exhibitions.
Phil Akashi created a dress mixing Japanese Sumi ink and Cinnabar paste with seal imprints with Chinese characters: 文/“culture” and 乐观/”optimism”. The artwork is called “a Touch of Optimism” as the artist hopes the European will start to re-build together a culture of Optimism. Download the Press Release
